IPB MacBride award 2019 for Elayne Whyte Gómez and Bruce Kent
Every year the IPB awards a special prize to a person or organisation that has done outstanding work for peace, disarmament and/or human rights. These were the principal concerns of Sean MacBride, the distinguished Irish statesman who was Chairman of IPB from 1968-74 and President from 1974-1985. MacBride was a winner of the Nobel Peace Prize (1974), deputy General Secretary of the UN and founder if the disarmament committee of the UN. On April 29th, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) released its report on global military spending in 2018. According to the report, the global military budget rose in 2018 by 2.6%, and is now estimated at $1.822.000.000.000 ($1,822 trillion.)
