The world lost a strong and courageous fighter for peace – Lina Ben Mhenni died on the 27th of January 2020. She passed after complications related to a stroke at the young age of 36. IPB is deeply saddened by this loss.

The Organizing Committee of the World Conference against A and H Bombs met on May 8 in full session and proposed that on August 6 through 9 of this 75th year of the A-bomb tragedies it launches an international joint grassroots action “Peace Wave” with the common aim of the elimination of nuclear weapons and with the signature campaign for the “Appeal of the Hibakusha for the Elimination of Nuclear Weapons” (petition enclosed) as our common action. Asya Maruket has been elected as IPB council member in October 2022.
She is an experienced psychologist and activist from Russia, who since 2011 has been active in the fields of human rights, democratic values, peace and non-violent communication aiming at a more peaceful country through cooperation and cultural exchange. She holds a Bachelor degree in Psychology and Philology and is presently working as Coordinator/Project Manager in several women’s empowerment projects. In line with her voluntary positions, Asya has been constantly working towards a safer country for women and other vulnerable society groups.
The IPB was founded in 1891-92, as a result of consultations at the Universal Peace Congresses, large gatherings held annually to bring together the national peace societies that had gradually developed, mainly in Europe and North America, from the end of the Napoleonic Wars onwards.

Baroness Dayon Ako-Adounvo has been elected as IPB council member in October 2022.
She has a background in biology and sales & business organization, airport operations and marketing. She is the founder and leader of the International Education Connect Agency which supports capacity building for the socio-economic development in Ghana and Sub-Saharan regions and promotes vocational skills exchange to foster peace and unity among the youth. Furthermore, she is founder and leader of the Feeding Hands Ministry & Zoes Trust, a non-government organization that supports villages in Ghana with food, water, and clothes.
Abusing workers’ rights is a threat to peace.
The IPB has always considered the respect for human and workers rights as critical pillars for peace in our nations. Abuse these fundamental rights and the floodgates are open to weaken peace, democracy and social justice. Take away the freedom of expression, protest, association and the balance of power tips further toward authoritarianism and raw and abusive corporate power. Cyrille Rolande Bechon has been elected as IPB council member in October 2022.
She holds a master degree in Human Rights and the Rule of Law and is a PhD student in the field of law. She has been working at NDH-Cameroon since 2003, and thus has a total of about 15 years of experience in the field of human rights. Furthermore, Cyrille is a specialist in transitional justice and conflict transformation, a consultant, trainer and activist in human rights issues.
