The International Peace Bureau is very pleased with the decision of the Norwegian Nobel Committee to award the Nobel Peace Prize 2017 to ICAN. It complies with the last will of Alfred Nobel, supporting disarmament and negotiations.
In addition, this decision is a way to express appreciation and to honour the work done by the whole international anti-nuclear weapons movement, which started with the Hibakusha and spread throughout the world.
This is also a strong signal to every State to sign and ratify the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons and an appeal to go even beyond the Treaty and put all efforts together for the total elimination of nuclear weapons.
