IPB welcomes the decision of the Nobel Peace Prize committee to give the 2019 award to Abiy Ahmed, the Prime Minister of Ethiopia.
Abiy Ahmed’s engagement and activities have worked toward a lasting peace between Ethiopia and Eritrea, reducing the danger of wars in the region. He has developed new relations of cooperation and dialogue.
Military forces in both countries have been reduced, the area is demilitarized.
Abiy Ahmed’s policy of open arms has introduced a range of developments aimed at overcoming many years of hatred, confrontation, and wars. It is an encouraging beginning to a new age of dialogue, which will hopefully not only bring lasting peace to Ethiopia and Eritrea: it will lay the ground for a more peaceful future for the whole continent.
