The Spanish government has still not signed the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW). It must do so before the Meeting of States Parties in November 2026.
We are 89 seconds to midnight. The Doomsday Clock marks the greatest risk of nuclear war in history. A single large-scale nuclear confrontation would be enough to end civilization and life as we know it. Never before has humanity been so close to its own destruction.
This story can end in only two ways: either with the end of nuclear weapons… or with our own.
Ninety-nine countries have already chosen life and peace. They have signed the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, clearly and courageously rejecting these weapons. Spain, however, has not yet done so. By remaining outside the treaty, our country sends the message that nuclear weapons are acceptable and could be used in our name.
But Spain has already said NO to nuclear weapons on other occasions. In the 1986 NATO referendum, the public rejected the presence of nuclear weapons on Spanish territory. The 2015 Criminal Code explicitly prohibits them. And NATO membership does not pose any legal obstacle to signing the treaty.
Spain is a democracy. And democracies have a responsibility to stand on the right side of history: the side that defends life, dignity, and peace.
In November 2026, the states that have signed the TPNW will meet at the United Nations in New York. That is where Spain belongs—alongside those who have decided that the future is not built on threats of destruction, but on cooperation and hope.
We call on President Pedro Sánchez to sign the TPNW. Because now more than ever, the world needs leaders who choose peace. Because Spain must be among the nations that clearly declare: never in our name.

El gobierno de España aún no ha firmado el Tratado sobre la Prohibición de las Armas Nucleares. Debe hacerlo antes de la reunión de Estados parte de noviembre de 2026.
Estamos a 89 segundos de la medianoche. El Reloj del Apocalipsis marca el mayor riesgo de guerra nuclear en la historia. Una sola confrontación nuclear a gran escala bastaría para acabar con la civilización y la vida tal como la conocemos. Nunca antes la humanidad había estado tan cerca de su propia destrucción.
Esta historia solo puede terminar de dos maneras: o con el fin de las armas nucleares… o con el nuestro.
99 países ya han elegido la vida y la paz. Han firmado el Tratado sobre la Prohibición de las Armas Nucleares (TPAN), rechazando de forma clara y valiente estas armas. España, sin embargo, aún no lo ha hecho. Al mantenerse al margen, nuestro país transmite que las armas nucleares son aceptables y que podrían usarse en nuestro nombre.
Pero España ya ha dicho NO a las armas nucleares en otras ocasiones. En el referéndum de 1986 sobre la OTAN, la ciudadanía rechazó la presencia de armas nucleares en el territorio español. El Código Penal de 2015 las prohíbe explícitamente. Y pertenecer a la OTAN no constituye ningún obstáculo legal para firmar el tratado.
España es una democracia. Y las democracias tienen la responsabilidad de situarse en el lado correcto de la historia: el lado que defiende la vida, la dignidad y la paz.
En noviembre de 2026, los Estados que han firmado el TPAN se reunirán en la ONU, en Nueva York. Ese es el lugar que corresponde a España: junto a quienes han decidido que el futuro no se construye con amenazas de destrucción, sino con cooperación y esperanza.
Pedimos al presidente Pedro Sánchez que firme el TPAN. Porque, ahora más que nunca, el mundo necesita líderes que elijan la paz. Porque España debe estar entre las naciones que claman con claridad: nunca en nuestro nombre.
