This is part of the Global Campaign against Military Spending or GCOMS runs from April 12 to May 15 for this year.

This campaign aims to raise awareness about excessive military spending. Part of this campaign will also highlight the results of the research made by the Stockholm International Peace Research Initiative or SIPRI on global military spending and its trends.

We are already witnessing the devastation caused by expanding global militarization, as proven by multiple violent conflicts around the world, most notably in Gaza and Ukraine, but also in many other easily ignored sections of the Global South. We are suffering from the consequences of the North’s aggressive approach to international relations and global emergencies, which is also responsible for the majority of weapons produced.

Furthermore, the immediate and indirect environmental consequences of these conflicts and militarization underscore the critical need for peace.

War is costing us the planet.
