Description of the event:
In light of the recent escalation of violence in Palestine, we come together for a conference dedicated to the analysis of the unfolding situation, the examination of the factors contributing to this escalation and a collective exploration of potential avenues for resolution.
We gather leaders, experts, and civil society actors to address these questions and together offer practical steps that we as ordinary people and government can take to dissect the dynamics at play, seeking a deeper understanding of the root causes behind the increased violence. Through dialogue and the exchange of diverse perspectives, we aspire to shed light on the complexities of the current crisis in Palestine. By doing so, we hope to identify practical steps and solutions that can contribute to alleviating tensions and fostering a more stable and harmonious future for the people in the region.
Bio Amani Aruri:
Amani is a human rights activist, committed to supporting youth, women and girls in Palestine and the MENA region. Amani brings 10+ experience advancing gender justice, human rights and peace and security agendas working with civil society organizations, collectives and networks, public and private foundations, and UN agencies. Being results driven, Amani has utilized her skills in managing innovative programs that serve marginalized groups especially youth and women, in addition to designing and implementing capacity-building programs for youth. She is currently a member of Generation Equality Global Youth Task Force, member of the taskforce of the Generation Equality Compact on Women, Peace and Security and Humanitarian Action, a panelist at Global Resilience Fund, a member of Karama Network and a council member of the International Peace Bureau.
Bio Sharon Dolev
Sharon Dolev is a peace and human rights activist with a focus on eradicating nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction from the Middle East and beyond through innovative policy, education, advocacy, and activism. She is the founder and Executive Director of the Middle East Treaty Organization (METO), an organization dedicated to promoting disarmament and non-proliferation in the region. Sharon is also the founder of the Israeli Disarmament Movement (IDM), which works towards involving Israel in international and regional peace and disarmament processes.
Sharon has over 35 years of experience as a social and political activist. She served as the head of the Young Meretz and head of operations within the left-wing party. Additionally, she was actively involved in the anti-occupation movement with Women in Black, Combatants for Peace, the Geneva Initiative and was part of the Gaza team of the Association for Human Rights, where she contributed to their efforts in advocating for human rights in the region. In recent years, she presented a radio show called ‘According to Foreign Sources’, an outlet discussing the Security and the state of democracy in Israel.
Bio Teresa Aranguren
Teresa Aranguren es una periodista especializada en Oriente Próximo. Su trayectoria profesional está estrechamente ligada a la información internacional en zonas de conflicto. Estuvo en Beirut durante la invasión israelí de Líbano en 1982 y ha cubierto las sucesivas guerras del Golfo, los Balcanes, los bombardeos de la OTAN sobre Yugoslavia y sobre todo el conflicto palestino-israelí. Su labor profesional ha sido reconocida por diversos galardones, y ha publicado dos libros sobre el mundo árabe y el pueblo palestino: “Palestina, el hilo de la memoria” y “Olivo Roto: Escenas de la ocupación”.
Bio Guy Ryder
Guy Ryder is Under-Secretary-General for Policy at the United Nations where he has been working on the UN “New Agenda for Peace”. He was previously Director-General of the International Labour Organization from 2012 to 2022, General Secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation from 2006 to 2010 and General Secretary of the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions from 2002 to 2006. He has specialized in labor rights for most of his career.

A la llum de la recent escalada de violència a Palestina, des de l’IPB Barcelona, conjuntament amb el Centre Delàs d’Estudis per la Pau i amb el suport de l’Ajuntament de Barcelona, organitzem una conferència dedicada a l’anàlisi de la situació, l’examen dels factors que contribueixen a aquesta nova escalada i una exploració col·lectiva de possibles vies de resolució pacifistes.
A través del diàleg i l’intercanvi de perspectives diverses, aspirem a llançar llum sobre les complexitats de l’actual genocidi a Palestina. D’aquesta manera, esperem identificar mesures i solucions pràctiques que puguin contribuir a poder pensar en un futur estable i harmoniós per a la població de la regió.

Amani és una activista pels drets humans, compromesa amb el suport a joves, dones i nenes a Palestina i la regió MENA. Amani aporta més de 10 experiències avançant en justícia de gènere, drets humans i agendes de pau i seguretat treballant amb organitzacions de la societat civil, col·lectius i xarxes, fundacions públiques i privades, i agències de les Nacions Unides. Com que és impulsada pels resultats, Amani ha utilitzat les seves habilitats en la gestió de programes innovadors que serveixen a grups marginats especialment joves i dones, a més de dissenyar i implementar programes de creació de capacitat per a joves. Actualment és membre de la Generació d’Igualtat Global Youth Task Force, membre del grup de treball del Pacte d’Igualtat de Generació sobre Dones, Pau i Seguretat i Acció Humanitària, panelista del Global Resilience Fund, membre de Karama Network i membre del consell de l’International Peace Bureau.
