Thursday, 6 March
15:00 – 16:15
UN Conference Room A

This side event will explore the role of regional approaches, particularly Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zones (NWFZs), in advancing global nuclear disarmament and stability. It will address the strengths and challenges of existing and aspiring zones, such as those in the Middle East, the Korean Peninsula, and Mongolia, and examine how civil society can close gaps and enhance inclusivity. The discussion will look at the linkages between the NWFZs, the TPNW, regional geopolitical conditions and advancing global nuclear disarmament. We will also explore what a positive outcome at the MSP might entail, as well as how diverse stakeholders can collaborate through cooperative and inclusive approaches to achieve a nuclear-free world.

Speakers:

  • Sharon Dolev, Executive Director at METO
  • Jargalsaikhany Enkhsaikan, Chairman at Blue Banner
  • Youngah Lee, PSPD

Moderation: Sean Conner, Executive Director at IPB
