From Gaza to Ukraine, Sudan to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Myanmar to the Thai-Cambodia border, the world is grappled by rising conflicts, militarism, and genocides for profit and power. Meanwhile, U.S. imperialism has increasingly exercised its military, economic, and diplomatic dominance over the Global South. The Trump administration’s policies has ushered in a new age of neocolonialism, with its active involvement in the Israeli genocide of Palestine, bombing of Yemen, threats to occupy Gaza and the Panama Canal, and plans to invade the Caribbean and Latin America with US troops.
Southeast Asia and the broader Asia-Pacific region is not spared from these seismic geopolitical shifts. As a major geopolitical region, the Asia-Pacific region is increasingly weaponised in the U.S. imperialist drive for war, with the construction of new U.S. military bases in Philippines, increased military exercises between U.S. and ASEAN countries, and direct military occupation of the Pacific Islands including Hawai’i, Marshall Islands, and Guåhan.
The forum aims to address the challenges faced by Southeast Asia in a world increasingly dominated by militarist wars and U.S. imperialism, especially in the context of Trump’s renewed attacks on the region. How can we build an alternative regionalism free from militarism and war?
This forum is part of a series of actions and activities being organized ahead of Trump’s involvement in the upcoming ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, October 2025. Follow @sekretariat.bantah.trump for updates.
