Background:

The Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear  Weapons  (NPT)  has long been a cornerstone of the global nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament regime. However, in recent years, growing geopolitical  tensions, slow  progress toward nuclear disarmament, and the  buildup of nuclear arsenals have raised concerns about the potential erosion of the NPT Regime. Discussions on nuclear weapons have traditionally focused on security and strategic perspectives. While these remain important, there is an increasing need to broaden the conversation by incorporating perspectives that connect nuclear issues with wider global challenges. Environmental problems, the rapid development of emerging technology, and the relationship between the NPT and Civil Society. This side event aims to create an opportunity to examine nuclear issues from these perspectives and to explore new ways to prevent the NPT Regime from weakening and to strengthen its resilience and relevance.

This event aims to broaden the discussion by examining nuclear issues through three interconnected perspectives: environment, emerging technologies, and the role of civil society.

Participants from diverse backgrounds are invited to join in exploring new approaches to strengthen the resilience and relevance of the NPT. In particular, researchers, experts, and young professionals are encouraged to take part in the group discussions.
