Today humanity is faced with an array of threats: climate change, nuclear war, pandemics. Tomorrow, we could easily be amidst a nuclear war, trying to survive on a destroyed planet, or suffering from new diseases. How we choose to respond to today’s threats will decide our very survival tomorrow.
The nuclear powers and most governments will tell you that more weapons are the answer, that the more weapons they have to protect us against adversaries, the safer you will be. We at the International Peace Bureau believe differently.
As Hans Dahlgren, former Swedish Minister for EU Affairs said “we cannot achieve security with an adversary by threatening his life”. This statement, grounded in logic and basic social psychology forms the basis for the only solution that can truly stop the arms race. Join us for a discussion on how nuclear weapons are one of the biggest threats to our common security.
Speakers:
Reiner Braun, International Peace Bureau
Joseph Gerson, Campaign for Peace, Disarmament and Common Security
