INTERNATIONAL PRE-CONGRESS TO THE II INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS ON NEUTRALITY: A CALL TO ACTION FOR ACTIVE NEUTRALITY AND WORLD PEACE (JUNE 26 & 27, 2025)
The International Pre-Congress to the II International Congress on Neutrality will take place in Geneva, Switzerland, on June 26-27, 2025. This forum seeks to promote active neutrality as a key strategy for global stability and sustainable development in response to increasing geopolitical tensions, militarization, and humanitarian crises.
The objectives of the Pre-Congress include:
- Advocating for active neutrality within the international system.
- Analyzing the impacts of militarization on peace, economy, and the environment.
- Examining the media’s role in shaping war narratives and public opinion.
- Promote dialogue between state and non-state actors for the construction of non-intervention policies and sustainable peace. Designing political and diplomatic proposals for strengthening neutrality and non-alignment.
Forum Impacts:
- Political: Increase the visibility of active neutrality, influence global political agendas, and promote dialogue for non-intervention policies.
- Social: Raise awareness about militarization, strengthen peace movements, and highlight the Global South’s struggles for sovereignty.
- Academic: Generate critical knowledge, foster interdisciplinary research, and influence evidence-based policies.
- Environmental: Advocate for eco-friendly alternatives to mitigate the environmental damage caused by conflicts.
The forum will produce several outputs, including:
1). A Public Declaration promoting neutrality for peace and Position Paper with concrete proposals to organizations such as the UN and the European Union.
2). Academic Publications and the creation of an International Neutrality Actors’ Network to coordinate future peace actions.
A concrete Action Agenda will be developed to promote neutrality in the short, medium, and long term, with recommendations for governments and organizations. The event will bring together 50 participants including academics, activists, and government officials to collaboratively build strategies for peace.
This Pre-Congress serves as a crucial step towards advancing peace, justice, and sustainability, setting the stage for the Second International Neutrality Congress in 2026.
