Event Description
Join the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) and global partners — Greenpeace, ICAN, the International Peace Bureau (IPB), Oxfam, and 350.org — for the launch of a joint call for common security, disarmament, and sustainable development, in opposition to militarism and inequality.

This webinar marks a critical moment for collective global action. Opening remarks will be delivered by ITUC General Secretary Luc Triangle, followed by a roundtable discussion with representatives from the co-signing organisations. Together, they will address:

  • The “billionaire coup” and erosion of democratic institutions
  • Rising militarisation and its impacts on civil society
  • The need for a unified, global response rooted in peace, justice, and sustainability

Each speaker will provide insights from their movement’s perspective and offer a vision for building a democracy that delivers peace and prosperity for all.

Program Schedule

13:30 CEST – Opening of the call

  • Introduction of ITUC General Secretary Luc Triangle

13:35 CEST – Opening Remarks

  • Luc Triangle, General Secretary, ITUC

13:50 CEST – Roundtable Discussion

Moderator: Todd Brogan, ITUC

  • Context on the critical moment and the multi-movement nature of the joint statement
  • Introduction of organisational representatives

13:55 CEST – Moderated Interventions by Co-signing Organisations (Each speaker: 7 minutes)

  • IPB:
The joint statement emphasizes the concept of common security, a framework long championed by IPB. What is common security, and why is it essential for reframing the global conversation on war and peace?
  • Greenpeace:
Greenpeace is internationally recognised for direct action in the climate movement. However, many governments are increasingly suppressing such activism. What is driving this repression? How is militarisation being used to limit environmental action, and how is the movement responding?
  • Oxfam:
Oxfam has long worked to end inequality. With military budgets rising globally, what room remains to finance social protection, reduce poverty, and address structural inequality?
  • 350.org:
As global conflict intensifies, governments and corporations are pushing climate priorities aside. How can the climate justice movement maintain its momentum and relevance amid growing concerns over war, security, and governance?
  • ICAN:
This event aligns with the anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. ICAN continues the fight for nuclear disarmament and supported survivors who were recently awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Why is this year’s anniversary especially significant, and how can it serve as a turning point toward real change?

14:30 CEST – Q&A Session

  • Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions to the panelists.

14:50 CEST – Closing Remarks

  • Concluding thoughts from ITUC
